THEORETICAL-PRACTICAL WORKSHOP

“Scenic procedures in non-conventional spaces”

(Online – for participants from all over the world. September + October 2021)

In these meetings we want to think about stage work outside the theater. It is about taking our environment as territory and scenic laboratory. To perceive the place we inhabit, to analyze the different spaces, the materiality and the signs, the sensitive and political cartographies, the dramaturgies and theatricalities.
The seminar is theoretical and practical. We will look at different texts by authors who address the intersection between city, urbanism and performing arts and we will introduce in each class different procedures on three fundamental axes: the documentary, the fictional and the performative. In addition, some historical and contemporary proposals made by different groups and artists working in non-conventional spaces will be shown and analyzed.
Between each meeting, the participants will carry out a small practical exercise in their places of residence, each one dedicated to the different scenic procedures presented in class.

TALK

“Theater and new technologies: A conflictive relationship?”

(As part of the series of talks “Art and Technology”, organized by the Municipality of Córdoba, 2022)

In the talk we reflect on immersive experiences, virtuality, digitality and interactivity in theater. We see what advantages and problems exist and are discussed in the field of performing arts in general and in the local scene in relation to these issues.

(Pedagogical University “Universidad Pedagógica Nacional Francisco Morazán”, San Pedro Sula (Honduras), organized together with Humboldt-Institut San Pedro Sula, December 2018)
(Espacio Centralia, Córdoba (Argentina), November 2018)

In this workshop we will examine theoretical elements of theatre and the scenic arts in relation to the urban space and non-conventional spaces. Different scenic projects will be analysed in which the city is taken as a stage.

We also present the different ways in which the urban space can be taken as the basis for dramaturgy. The relationship between reality and fiction is studied, as well as how performing arts and technology are interrelated. In the practical application, the participants are invited to perform different exercises related to the observation of urban space and the format of “Fictional Audiotour” in order to put together some sequences of a possible work.
The objectives of the seminar are: To show an overview of contemporary theatre as well as analysing how the urban environment can be seen as a stage and basis for dramaturgy, and to provide participants with a space for experimentation.
